We love it when volunteers share our passion for STEM and are so fortunate that Bishop O’Dowd High School student, Ethan, chose our organization for his school service project.
For six sessions this winter, Ethan has been facilitating coding workshops for 4th and 5th grade girls in our program. Through Code.org, girls learn basic computer science principles by coding Scratch, a programming language that breaks down traditional coding into simple and colorful blocks that can be used to create video games and animations.
It’s a great way to introduce girls to computer science and Ethan hopes to inspire more girls to enjoy STEM and possibly envision a future for themselves in STEM careers.
In addition to volunteering his time, knowledge, and skills, Ethan also raised the funds needed to purchase the Chromebooks that the girls used, and we are so GRATEFUL for his support!
