Volunteer Opportunities

Walking School Bus Volunteer
Weekdays (M T Th F) for 2 hours - 2:30-4:30pm; (1:30-4:30pm on Wednesdays and other early release days)
This opportunity is ongoing and one of our most important commitments! GIIC needs responsible, caring walkers (age 18 and up) to assist our staff with escorting our Girls Program participants (grades 1-5) from their schools to our center located at 1724 Santa Clara Avenue. Escorts then remain at our site to help the girls with their homework or other activities. Escorts commit to at least 1 walk per week for the school semester. Walking time varies from 15-30 minutes depending on distance. Register now to be a Walking School Bus/Homework Helper.

Volunteer photoWorkshop Leaders/Dynamic Women
Have some wisdom to impart? Speak to the Girls or Teens Program participants about your career or life experience, lead them in an activity, teach a skill, or host a field trip at your workplace! Dynamic Women are dance instructors, scientists, athletes, mothers, business women, and thought leaders.

Join the ranks of many Dynamic Women who have made a difference by participating in our programs year-round, but especially during our summer camps. If you have a STEM background, please inquire about how you can volunteer during the school year workshops or during the summer for our STEM intensive teen program, Eureka! Skilled volunteers can also work with our trained staff to engage "Passport to Success" teen participants for one-hour sessions designed to complement our weekly themes. High school volunteers work only with the Girls program, and are subject to the approval of Girls Program Director, Natalie Duarte. Register to be a Dynamic Woman!

Form Translators
GIIC needs form translators. Translators convert our forms from English to Spanish, Cantonese, and Vietnamese. These forms help us extend services to more families and expand our community reach. Register now to be a Form Translator.

Group Volunteers
Groups and companies can donate a day of service for site beautification, distribution of large mailings, or host an event for our program participants. To register your group, please contact Lissa Merit at 510.521.1743 ext. 225.

Holiday Sale Volunteers
Spread holiday spirit and cheer every December by helping organize, price, and wrap gifts with our Girls Program and Alameda Island Kids participants. Register now to be a Holiday Sale Volunteer.

Volunteer photoWomen Who Dare Volunteers
Our annual fundraiser and luncheon, held in mid-March, honors extraordinary girls and women in our community. We need volunteers to help before, during, and after the event by: serving on a subcommittee, event planning, securing donations for our silent auction and raffle, and by assisting on the event date with set-up, check-in, and clean-up. Planning meetings begin in the fall. Visit our Women Who Dare page to learn more about this event or register now to be a Women Who Dare Volunteer.

Board Committee Members
Share your expertise on a subject such as marketing, special events planning or finance by joining a Board of Director's Committee. Committee members do not have to be members of the Board to serve - everyone from the community is welcome! Visit our Board of Directors page to learn more about Board Committees or register now to be a Board Committee Member.
