OUTREACH FACILITATOR

ORGANIZATION
Girls Incorporated of the Island City is a local affiliate of a national nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and boldsm. Since it’s founding in 1964, Girls Inc. of the Island City has provided the only youth development services just for girls in Alameda. We recognize that gender stereotyping still limits girls’ potential.

At Girls Incorporated, girls are challenged to explore science, math and computers; examine how money is earned and invested; and to ask questions about themselves and the world in which they live. Our nationally recognized programming is designed to be hands-on and interactive in order to encourage each girl to take risks and gain a sense of her own power and strength.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Girls and Teen Program Director, the Outreach Facilitator’s primary responsibility is developing and delivering Girls Inc. programs to girls ages 11 to 13 at local middle school afterschool program(s). Programs focus on bullying and relational aggression, building healthy relationships, self-reliance and life skills and college and career readiness. The Outreach Facilitator will also be responsible for the Pre-teen Summer Camp Program. The desired candidate is a self-starter and able to work independently. A strong desire to work with middle-school girls is a must.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans and implements age-appropriate activities for middle school girls in the areas listed above.
  • Supervises girls during program activities at local middle school(s)
  • Attend regular staff development, team meetings and trainings
  • Maintains positive relationships with youth, parents and staff
  • Communicates effectively with school site staff and administrators
  • Works as a team member with Program Director and other Program Staff
  • Communicates and coordinates activities with other staff
  • Completes program planning and evaluation on time
  • Informs Program Director of all incidents, injuries and other information as they occur
  • Assists girls in resolving conflicts
  • Provide additional program support as assigned

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have experience working with middle school youth
  • Experience working with diverse groups preferred
  • Creativity and interest in a variety of subjects, especially those mentioned above
  • Communication skills to enable working with groups and individuals
  • Attention to detail, good organization skills
  • High-school diploma, some college preferred

Hours: 20 hours per week, must be able to work Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

Compensation: starting salary $10-$12/hour
