Board Committees
Board of Directors >> Board Committees

The board members at Girls Incorporated of the Island City meet the second Thursday of every month. In addition, some board members hold special offices and all board members serve on a variety of very important "working" committees. These include:

Executive Committee
This committee meets the first Tuesday of every month and makes recommendations to the full board on a variety of topics. The members of this committee include the board president, first vice president, recording secretary, treasurer, past president, and director-at-large.

Board Development Committee
This committee is responsible for recruiting members for the Board of Directors. Members of this committee facilitate the process for developing criteria for board members and identifying, recruiting, and proposing new directors to the existing board. They also oversee the application, interview, and selection process of potential board members. Members of this committee plan and implement training as needed to strengthen all members' knowledge of the organization and increase their ability to function effectively. Members of this committee usually come from the Board of Directors, but could also be volunteers from the community.

Finance Committee
This committee, in coordination with the Finance Specialist, is responsible for the board's financial oversight. In coordination with the Executive Director and other board committees, this committee works to finalize and recommend the organization's annual budget, reviews and recommends specific investment policies, and reviews and reports on the annual audit. All members are Executive Committee officers or members of the Board of Directors.

Fund Development, Community Relations, and Special Events
This committee, in coordination with the Development & Communications Director, is responsible for developing strategies to increase community awareness about and bring money into the organization. These strategies include fundraising strategies and events, the Ambassador program, and community outreach activities.

Ad Hoc Committees

Strategic Plan Committee
This committee, in coordination with the Executive Director, is responsible for updating the organization's strategic plan, creating a business plan, and developing an overall long-term direction for Girls Incorporated of the Island City.

Women Who Dare Awards Event Committee
This committee is responsible for planning and promoting our annual fund-raising luncheon. This annual May event honors Bay Area women and teens who represent excellence in their careers and professional achievements. It is also a program for our girls, who present the awards. This committee meets year-round. Volunteers interested in organizing and publicizing the event, soliciting corporate and community sponsorships, or selling tickets are encouraged to join this committee.
